Choosing a Blower For Fall Leaf Clean-Up

Choosing a Blower For Fall Leaf Clean-Up

When deciding what type of blower to purchase, several questions should be asked:

  • What size is your property?
  • What type of materials do you plan to blow?
  • Do you have any noise restrictions to consider?
  • Are there any special features you’re interested in?

Handheld Blowers

Handheld blowers are recommended for removing lighter materials such as grass clippings and dry leaves.  For use on smaller yards, driveways, sidewalks, and patios models such as Stihl’s BGA45, BGA56, BGE61/71, BG50, and BG56C-E all have enough power to get the job down.  For removing lighter materials if you have more acreage the BGA85, BGA100, BG86, & BG86C-E are the recommended models.  We have battery-powered (BGA), electric (BGE), and gasoline powered (BG) Stihl handheld blowers.

Stihl also offers 2 models of shredder vacs, SH56C-E and SH86C-E, that will shred and collect leaves in the provided leaf bag to make cleanup even easier.

Backpack Blowers

If you are going to be using a blower for an extended period of time backpack blowers move the weight of the blower from your hand to your back while providing more power to get larger jobs done faster and move heavier materials such as wet leaves.  For maintaining a single property Stihl’s BR350, BR430, BR450, and BR450C-EF have the power needed to get the job down while limiting the amount of weight on your back.

Need more power for professional use or to get the job done even faster?  Stihl’s BR600 and BR700 have the power to get even the largest jobs done quickly.

Walk Behind Blowers

If you need even more power than a backpack blower can offer or don’t want to carry around a blower we have Billy Goat walk behind Force Blowers.  Starting at 6hp and going all the way up to 18hp these walk behind blowers can clean a yard 2x to 7x faster than a backpack blower.

Special features

  • Stihls’ battery powered (BGA) and electric (BGE) blowers run significantly quieter than gas powered models for noise sensitive areas.
  • Stihl’s Easy2Start system, indicated by the C-E suffix, allows you to start the engine with a long easy pull on the starting rope rather than quick hard pulls.
  • Stihl’s BR450C-EF backpack blower has an electric-start system that engages with the press of a button on the throttle.  No more pulling the backpack blower on and off each time you turn the engine off and need to restart the blower.
  • Billy Goat offers some self-propelled walk behind blowers, indicated with a SP in the model number, eliminating fatigue issues.
